is a herbaceous flowering perennial with a clumping growht habit.
In mid-Summer, exotic
clusters of single-petaled, terminal burgundy-spotted orange blossoms
appear atop green, sword-shaped foliage and is
followed by show seedpods in the Fall.
The seeds resembles blackberries and are not edible. Butterflies
are attracted to its nectar-rich blossoms while birds have a fiesta at
the seeds.
The long lasting cut flowers
and ornamental seedpods are every forist and hobbyist's delight. Belamcanda
chinenses 'Freckle Face' is easily propagated from seeds or from rootball
divisions.
It
performs well in well-draiend, rich mildy acidic or alkaline or neutral
soil.
Blackberry Lily
is sun-loving and does not demand much attention. It is
