is a
bold and beautiful
herbal perennial with an erect growth habit.. In mid-Summer,
umbels of bright yellow blossoms appear atop 2' stems. Florists
are delighted with the dried flowers.
Asclepias tuberosa 'Hello Yellow'
is a excellent
butterfly
host plant.
It
is an irristible plant for enticing the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies
to the garden.
Yellow Butterfly Weed
is easily propagated from seeds or cuttings. It
self-sows readily and soon you will have a nice collection next season.
Yellow Butterfly Weed
is tough and maintenance free.
It
detest being moved so direct sow seeds to permanent position. Winter
hardiness is 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit. Mass plant for a dramatic
effect as edging plants or as fillers in the perennial bed.
Yelow Milkweed makes superb specimen plants. It can also
be container cultivated for the sunny deck or patio.
Interesting note: Due to the fact that there are so many
traditional medicinal uses for the Milkweed plant, Carlos Linhaeus, a
Swedish botanist, zoologist and physician named the genus
after the Greek god of healing Aclepius.
