Haworthia fasciata 'Big Band' or
Zebra Haworthia
or
Zebra Plant is a small, flowering, tropical succulent plant
with a compact, clumping growth habit. The plant genus Haworthia is
endemic to south Africa and is named after a British botanist, Adrian Hardy
Haworth (1976-1833). In mid-Summer or early Fall, interesting green and
white blossoms appear on a spike above densely packed, stemless rosettes.
Haworthia fasciata 'Big Band' is grown mainly for its
exquisite, succulent green and white banded, zebra-like foliage,
hence its common name. The elongated, warty leaves are triangular in
shape, thicker at the base and tapered to a sharp point at the tip. Zebra
Haworthia is easily propagated from offset divisions. It is low
maintenance and thrives best in a sunny to part shade location. Zebra
Plant tolerates drought well which makes it an excellent xeriscaping plant.
Mass plant this evergreen succulent in the rock garden for an eye-catching
vista.
Haworthia fasciata 'Big Band' can also be container cultivated
for the home or office.
