Comments:
Begonia boliviensis 'Bertini' or Tuberous Begonia
is a rare hardy perennial plant with a tuberous growth habit. It
is a cross between Begonia boliviensis and Begonia veitchii. In
mid-Summer, it bears flashy pendant-like, bell-shaped red-orange
terminal flowers on long arching stems; hummingbirds are delighted with
the nectar-rich blosooms. Begonia boliviensis 'Bertini' is easily
propagated from stem cuttings or tuber divisions in the Fall when plant
is dormant. It performs best in well-drained sandy soil in a sunny
to part shade location with regular watering.
Excessive sun will scorch the leaves.
Tuberous Begonia
loves high humidity and goes dormant in cooler seasons but reappears
in mid-Summer next season with a stronger growth. It is
ideally cultivated for
containers; use it to
brighten up the porch or indoors for the home or office by providing it
with filtered light. Begonia boliviensis 'Bertini' is one
spectacular plant that's sure to please.
