Foliage:  Greenish-black, handsome, glossy, smooth-textured, arrow-shaped with contrasting veins
Soil:  Well-drained, rich organic, keep moist  (pH: 5.6-6.5, mildly acidic-acidic)
Water:  Abundance
Fertilizer:  Half strength recommended on label, every other month

Uses:  Container, moist bedding, pool edges, houseplant, water garden
Propagation:  Seeds (To be sown indoors before last frost), tuber division, offsets
Comments: 
Alocasia amazonica  or African Mask, Amazon Elephant's Ear  is a beautiful tropical perennial tuber plant with a rapid growth rate. The lush leaves are dramatic greenish-black in color with prominent veins and are pointed at the tips.  African Mask is easily propagated from seeds, tuber division or offsets.   Grow Alocasia amazonica en masse for a dramatic effect for the water garden;  grow it in your favorite container for indoor decoration or grow them in moist perennial beddings.  Amazon Elephant's Ear thrives well in part to full shade area of the landscape.   Alocasia amazonica is clump-forming it loves plenty of water.  Trim dead leaves or flowers for a neat appearance.  Repot to larger container if roots are showing at soil surface and drainage holes but water plants throughly before you repot.
