Comments:  Cestrum elegans var smithii or Jasmine smithii
is an attractive deciduous perennial shrub with a compact growth habit.  It bears eye-catching ornate clusters of rocy-pink blossoms followed later by rich red berries.  Hummingbirds are magnetized by its nectar-rich flowers while birds have a galore at the seeds.  Cestrum elegans var smithii is easily propagated from stem cuttings; it thrives well in a moist, sunny to part shade environment.  Jasmine smithii is hardy to 25degrees Fahrenheit.  It does not tolerate frost so mulch heavily to protect from frost.  Cut back frost-bitten tops.  Cestrum elegans Smithii makes an outstanding specimen plant.  Mass plant for a spectacular windbreaker.  This elegant shrub can also be container cultivated to accent the patio or deck.  In colder areas, bring plant indoors for the winter.  Jasmine smithii stops foot traffic.
