Acca sellowiana  (Feijoa, Pineapple Guava, Feijoa sellowiana)...Origin:  Native to Northern Argentina, Paraguay, Southern Brazil, Uruguary  Family:  Myrtaceae   Light: Sun-part shade  Height: 10'  Spacing: 6'  Blooms:  Fragrant, 1" across, red and white, Spring  Foliage: Deep green surface with silvery undersides  Fruits: Gray-green skin, round/egg-shaped, edible, aromatic, waxy-textured, in Fall  Spacing:  Soil:  Well-drained, mildly acidic, keep moist  Water:  Propagation: Seeds (Sow directly after last frost had passed), soft/hardwood cuttings  Uses:  Hedging, specimen, fruits, container   Pest/Disease: None  Comments:  Acca sellowiana is a multi-stemmed tropical shrub that bears delicious edible fruits.  In Spring, showy red and white blossoms with scarlet stamens are magnets for bees, birds and butterflies.  Pineapple Guava is easily propagated from seeds but is slow growing initially; make sure to provide plenty of water.  Plant 2 of them for fruit production.  In the Fall, allow rip Feijoa fruits to fall onto ground; they are edible fresh and are loaded with minerals and vitamins; very beneficial for type 2 diabetes, also called NIDDM or Non Insulin Dependant Diabetes Mellitus. The pulp is greenish-white in color and very juicy.  Excess fruits can be blended with ice for a delicious healthful drink or made into jam or jelly, chutney, wine or top them with ice-cream for a yummy dessert.  The flower petals are also edible.  Feijoa sellowiana is tender and is hardy to temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit.  Grow them as specimen as hedging plants and prune as necessary for size and shape.  Acca sellowiana can also be container grown to decorate the patio or deck or as a bonsai.  For colder areas, bring plant indoors for the Winter.  USDA Zones: 8-10

The leaves of wood of Margosa Tree is used as an insect repellent,  pesticide and also used in Indian folklore medicine.  Azadiracta indica is extracted from the seeds.  Balnimb is as hard as Mahogany and is highly sought after for building boats and bridges among other things.   Older Indian Lilac plants can be pruned to desired shape and size in Spring  USDA Zones 9-11

The white blossoms are hard to detect among its prolific foliage. Kentucky Coffee Tree is propagated from seeds into permanent position in the sunny landscape.  It has long tap roots and does not like being transplanted.

Phyllanthus embilica   (Indian Gooseberry, Amla)...Origin:  Northern and southwestern Indian  Family: Euphorbiaceae  Light:  Sun-part shade  Height: 20' or more  Blooms:  Greenish-yellow  Foliage:  Deciduous, light green, lace-like   Fruits:  Light greenish-yellow berries, small-medium, round, smooth, has 6 vertical stripes, sour, rich in vitamin C., have antioxidant properties and possess medicinal value, a dietary supplement;  ripens in Fall.  Comments: Phyllanthus embilica or Indian Gooseberry is a small to medium size tropical deciduous fruit tree with a crooked trunk.  Propagated from seeds, the tree can reach 20 feet or more in the open landscape or as understory plants.  According to sources, Phyllanthus embilica was discovered more than eight years ago as a 'wonder tree' as all parts of the plant are valuable for treating various ailments.  The sour fruits, considered 'miracle fruits' contain drying action properties; they are consumed for general wellbeing of our bodies and have been used in traditional folk medicine for treating diabetes, cancer, inflammation among others.  Indian Gooseberry fruits are high in tannin and are used in the manufacturing of shampoos and hair oil which helps to prevent premature gray hair.  Amla is considered a sacred tree to the Hindus.

Prunus americana var lanata is easily propagated from stem cuttings or seeds which have to be sown as soon as possible as dried seeds tend to loose their viability.  Prunus pensylvanca var mollis is a delightful tree for the landscape.

Raspberry 'Royal Purple'...Light: Full sun  Height: 5'  Spacing: 3'  Comments: Raspberry 'Royal Purple' is a fruit vine with a vigorous growth rate.  It is Winter hardy to -30 degrees F.  Raspberry 'Royal Purple' fruits taste like red raspberries.  These anti-oxidant fruits are vitamin C-rich and they can be made into jellies or jams or kept frozen.  The berries are also a fiesta for the birds.   Trim canes after fruiting season is over.  If left untrimmed, plants are great for bird nesting and hiding.
